NEWS TRAINEE (Seoul based, part-time)
NK News is seeking a Seoul-based, bilingual Korean / English newstrainee for a part-time (25 hours/week), three month period, starting in early, mid-October.
Working at the NK News Seoul office, the newstrainee will be responsible for assisting in monitoring the media, gathering relevant Korean language news, translating selected news and features from Korean to English (and vice versa), and corresponding with Korean speaking contacts and sources.
Further, the newstrainee will be taught how to write news and features and be invited to regularly contribute stories to the site, initially supporting full-time writers.
Other duties will include assisting the Communications Manager with administrative tasks, such as translating Korean articles for the weekly ‘Foreign Media Monitor’ newsletter and translating pieces for the “Ask A North Korean” column.
Upon successful completion of the training program, the trainee will be able to publish under his or her own byline.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent written and spoken English (Korean proficiency is also preferred)
- Translation or writing experience, preferably in a news environment
- High attention to detail
- Knowledge and understanding of North Korea
- Good initiative

Please note this educational traineeship is unpaid.
However, a modest monetary compensation will be provided to cover transportation and lunch expenses.
